Education Fund
It did not
take long for the English teaching volunteers to see that Alex and Elvin, two
orphaned teenagers at Gizildash orphanage were very eager to learn. It came
therefore as no surprise that the boys expressed an interest in trying to get
into higher education. Unfortunately, considering their circumstances, this
would not be possible.
To give
these boys the chance of a lifetime, and in co-operation with Azeta, CSA
launched an appeal to raise funds so Alex and Elvin could go to Baku to receive
extra tuition to prepare them for the entrance exams. Many teachers give their
time for free, or only charge a nominal fee, as everyone is keen to help them.
Nevertheless transport, tuition and books amount to AZN 250 per month. Alex
successfully passed his exams in the summer of 2008 and gained a place at a Baku
college. At his military medical it transpired Alex had pre-TB and he spent
several months in hospital. Elvin passed his exams in 2009 and became a long
distance student in Lenkoran University. To our great delight, Alex received a
scholarship to study in Russia in 2010. Both students received a laptop from
Bertling to help with their studies and CSA continue to support both
students in numerous ways to obtain their college degrees.
If you can
help these boys to fulfil their dreams, please get in touch with us via
info@csabaku.org. Any amount of money, small or large, will contribute to
their goal of creating a better life for themselves.
